How does Dr. Joseph Needham view Feng Shui?

Needham is a famous British scientist and an expert on the history of Chinese science and technology. In the "History of Science and Technology in China", he defined Fengshui: "Adjust the residence of the living and the dead to make them suitable and coordinated with the local cosmic breathing."

He called Feng Shui a kind of quasi-science, ancient Chinese landscape architecture. He believes that feng shui is helpful to many aspects of actual life, such as: it proposes to plant trees and bamboo forests to prevent wind, and emphasizes the value of flowing water near homes.

He believes that although Feng Shui has some superstitions, it also contains aesthetic elements. "The beauty of China's countryside, houses, and villages is invincible, and this can be proved."
